Latina Leadership Initiative

Angela Nieto

Angela Nieto was born and raised in Medellín, Colombia. After graduating from the Escuela de Ingenieria de Antioquia, she decided to pursue her dream of earning her Master in Business Administration degree and working in the United States. When she was 22 years old, she moved to Dubuque, Iowa to continue her education at Clarke College. Throughout her career, Angela has had no doubt that advocacy

towards Hispanic and Latino engineers is the key to success. She believes everyone should have equal opportunities, which motivates her to spend significant time working to develop Hispanic and Latino men and women. On her staff there are Latinos managing and supervising quality engineering organizations and quality inspection departments. These employees are actively participating in and making significant impacts at one of the largest manufacturing companies in the world.

Not only does Angela lead by example, serving as a role model to other Hispanics, she constantly pushes her staff to increase the diversity of their teams through mentoring, networking, and recruiting. She strives to understand what would attract more Hispanic candidates and how she can build a more inclusive workplace. Her long-term vision is focused on increasing Hispanics and Latinos in the workforce and creating a work environment for them to learn, grow, and lead. In 2018 she earned the Manager of the Year award from the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. This recognition honors a manager who is known for professional excellence in leading a diverse engineering team or group.
